Interview With The Singer
|
- How did your musical journey
start?
- My first concert was in
2046 B.S., My first song was “Chodi Gayo Priye” and
released my first album in 2047 B.S. with my band
Lituluns.
- What happened to your old
group?
- My band members could not
sustain due to financial problem and their personal
career. That time there was no scope of music so
they decided to choose the other tracks. So I
started my solo career.
- Looks like you have lots of
influence from Gypsy Kings or similar style...Can you
tell us more about that
- I am a great fan of Gypsy
King. I used to listen to his songs so I am
influenced by him. I still listen to his songs and
he is my favorite singer.
- You play guitar also right? Any
favorite players?
- Ya, I play guitars. My
favorite guitar player is Mark Knopfler from Dire
Straits.
- "Oh Amira" was one of your
first hit song. You had written for your wife. Right?
What was her reaction?
- Yes I wrote that song for
my wife (Girlfriend that time). She was extremely
happy that I wrote the song for her and that song
clicked in the market too.
- You have been in this journey
for sometime now. What changes have you noticed in
Nepali Music besides the recording quality?
- Lots of changes in Nepali
music industry then and now. That time it was very
hard but now we have lots of scope in music. Now we
are supported financially, we can make this field as
an career. We have good public response; people give
first priority to music and shows. Artist have
started going for world tours and even corporate
houses have started choosing artists as Brand
Ambassadors. So I should say there is speedy growth
in Nepali music industry.
- What has been your most
inspiring moment and the most discourage moment in your
musical life?
- My most inspiring moment
was when my song was first time aired in Radio
Nepal. I was so happy that time I can’t forget that
moment and discouraging moment? I have not had till
now.
- What has been the difficult
part in being an artist?
- It’s bit difficult being an
artist in our society. We cannot live normal life
with real profile. We have to maintain certain
standard so that people won’t laugh at us. Besides
that non others.
- What’s your thought on Nepali
music and industry? How do you intend to save it and
take it to the next level?
- Nepali music industry is
growing speedily. Now a days there are more concerts
and corporate houses supporting music field. Its
good to see all these coming, at least artists can
survive. We are getting financial returns. It’s good
to see that. I too am working to save Nepali music
industry. I have opened Royal Tone Academy. There we
are training musicians.
- You have been in major
advertisement /media in Nepal? How has that affected in
your music?
- Yes I have been in major
advertisement/media in Nepal. I have been chosen as
brand ambassador for Bagpiper Whiskey, Kodak Film,
Samsung Electronics, World link Communication and
Anna Lifan Motorcycle. But this has not affected my
music career instead it has been an encouragement
for me. It is helping me to make money and my career
too.
- Last time I met you --it was at
your studio Royaltone...Are you still managing the
studio? How do you manage to do that along with your
music?
- Yes I am managing Royaltone
and I will continue operating it. I have done
management course and I am managing time for both.
After all its also part of my music career; being
Artist, Music Arranger, Singer, Performer. So I am
taking both simultaneously.
- Even though you have your own
studio, most of your recording seems to be at other
studios? Am I right?
- My most of the songs are
recorded at my own studio. But individual tracks are
only recorded at other studios. Like for others
album I will have to record at the studios they wish
to work with, and I can’t take that share of other
studios business.
- What can you share about your
concert experiences in other countries? Was it hard to
travel and perform?
- It is really good to
perform in other countries. Nepalese abroad really
appreciate to see Nepali artists performing at their
place and they co-operate fully to Nepali artists.
But it’s hard to travel and perform. First of all we
have to prepare a lot for the show and also we will
be tired after the journey too. In addition, due to
organizers weakness and lack of organizing team it’s
hard. So definitely it’s hard to travel and perform.
But without hard work we get nothing and also the
audience’s support encourages us to perform well.
Lets hope in future things will improve; Hope for
the best.
- Now that you are coming to US?
What is your expectation? What have you heard from other
artists who have performed in US?
- I am trying to promote both
my music and Nepali music. I have to prove that
there is scope in Nepali Music to my parents and to
all those parents who are stopping their children
from entering this field. And I have heard that
Nepalese there feel proud to perform and see the
artists performing. The Nepalese there co-operate
the Artists and easily travel to various cities to
see the concerts and appreciate the show and
artists.
- What’s ahead of your career?
- I am planning to establish
music organization. That organization will promote
Nepali music Industry. There, being a Chairperson, I
will contribute to Nepali Music until I die.
- If I m a fresh artist, and
would like to get into recording music and enter into
music scene--what would you suggest me?
- First you have to make your
foundation strong. You have to do all the necessary
preparation and then only come to this field so that
you won’t fell regretful later. If your foundation
is strong then you will never have to go backward.
Music is a one way track.
- Anything you would want to
add...or anything you might have said ?
- As an Artist we should do
something for the betterment of our nation. Even
whole industry should try to contribute for the
nation. I am engaged in social works too. Being
associated with Kodak we are donating Rs 100000.00
(One Lakh) every month to Cancer relief society and
personally, I am contributing Rs. 1/- per copy of my
album to Cancer Relief Society. Similarly all the
Artists should contribute something, no matter less
or more, so that it will help the nation in someway.
